Said

TESDA which anyone can gain basic knowledge of either through self study or a

TESDA XII Conducted Resource Based Skills and Livelihood
Training (Utilization of Water Hyacinth in Cotabato City)

In
response to the call of His Excellency Pres. Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III in
addressing the problem of frequent flooding in Cotabato City, during his visit
last June 22, 2011, various national government and non-government agencies
converged to find ways to provide solution and mitigating action of the
experienced catastrophe.
While
other agencies responded by mobilizing direct operation in unclogging the Rio
Grande de Mindanao water ways brought about by water hyacinths, TESDA has came up with an alternative solution by
turning menace into gold of opportunity.

The
TESDA Director General, Sec. Emmanuel Joel J. Villanueva immediately responded
to the call and issued a statement through national paper on the value and
relevance of water hyacinths. Consequently, upon receiving the order, TESDA XII
Regional Director Zeus P. Ampuyas managed and organized a group from the
Regional Office and Cotabato City District Offices to facilitate and coordinate
with the local partners such as LGUs, women’s association and disadvantage
group for the conduct of skills and livelihood training utilizing water
hyacinths as raw materials. The training is in collaboration with TESDA
National Capital Region (NCR).
